Credit Card Companies New Tactic

Tue May 31, 2005 at 05:57:33 PM PDT

I am one of those people that the credit card companies now drool over. I don't have good credit, and I don't make a lot of money. If they can get me, the could really charge me 'til I bleed. And now if I try to file for bankruptcy, HA!

So I have tried to participate in the credit card "boycott" (for lack of a better  term) that people have been promoting. This is the one where you take their envelope and mail them a letter telling them why you won't be applying for their stinkin' card. I've sent a few envelopes back. But I don't get too many as it is, so I've only sent a few.

Today, I recieved a card that I never applied for. There are no forms to fill out and no return envelope. So they don't have to worry about any of those pesky protest letters. All I have to do is call and "activate" and I'll have a whopping 6,500 credit line!

There is no way they would normally approve me for this credit line. It is simply a tactic to tempt me into getting a card and spending money I don't have. Now, it's perfectly legal for them to charge me whatever interest rate they want, and they know I can't file for bankruptcy, so they are going for it. It doesn't matter if I have the ability to pay. Honestly, I could use the credit to put some investment in my freelance business, or to keep on hand for medical emergencies. This is what they are counting on, but I know better.

I'm trying to think of a way to twist this new tactic of theirs. I would consider mailing it all back with a letter, at my own expense, but there would be some security risk. I'm not sure cutting up the card would be enough. But I do plan to do something, I just don't know what.
